Used for

Natural fragrance, fresh scent

How it works

Eucalyptus oil is steam-distilled from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree (Eucalyptus globulus). Its main component, 1,8-cineole (also called eucalyptol), gives the oil its distinctive crisp, cooling, camphoraceous character.

Eucalyptus oil has a long history of traditional and aromatic use, and it is valued above all for its fresh, invigorating scent, which is the role it plays in a formula.

As with any essential oil, it's used in small amounts alongside other fragrance and functional ingredients in a formula.

About the plant

Eucalyptus is native to Australia, a genus of evergreen, often very tall trees with as many as 700 species. The essential oil from its leaves is one of the most valued of all tree oils. (Čmiková et al., 2023)

The oil is held in the leaves and is obtained by steam distillation, which carries the aromatic compounds out of the leaf so they can be collected. (Čmiková et al., 2023)
